HARLINGEN, Texas — VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System (VCB) is scheduled to host a hiring event on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at the VA Health Care Center located at 2601 Veterans Drive Harlingen, Texas, 78550.
The five-hour long event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Job seekers will be able to apply and interview for positions at VA facilities in McAllen, Harlingen, Laredo and Corpus Christi.
On-the-spot-tentative job offers may take place for the following positions: Phlebotomist, Human Resources, Medical Support Assistant, Housekeeping and Purchasing Agents. Please see bottom of this page for job details.
Applicants must bring resumes and should wear appropriate attire for possible job interviews that same day.
Prospective candidates must present their social security card as one of two current (not expired) forms of government-issued identifications. A state driver’s license, birth certificate or state identification card may be used as second form of acceptable ID.

JOB DETAILS:
Human Resources Specialist
Duties: Human resources specialists involves an array of duties consisting of mostly recruitment and placement. The other responsibilities of this position include position management, benefits and retirement, and classification. They human resources work, such as those related to employee relations, compensation and benefits, training, information systems, and quality review.
Minimum Qualifications: U.S. Citizenship, one year of experience equivalent to the GS-7 in the Federal Service.
Qualifications for GS-9/11 will be determined by an HR Specialist upon reviewing the Resume.
Medical Support Assistant
Duties: A Medical Support Assistant interprets doctor’s orders, scheduling, canceling, and re-scheduling patients’ appointments. Update patients’ demographics and insurance information. Answers incoming calls, and makes outgoing calls, providing outstanding Customer Service.
Minimum Qualifications: U.S. Citizenship, one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-4) or 4 years of education above high school. The position requires the ability to operate computerized programs and databases; knowledge of basic medical terminology; ability to make appointments in clinical setting. Qualifications for GS-5 up to GS-8 will be determined by an HR Specialist upon reviewing the Resume.
Purchasing Agent
Duties: Serve as a purchase card holder fulfilling acquisition requests under the federal micro-purchase threshold, ensuring purchases are procured in accordance with federal and VA regulations, policy and procedures with responsibility for work leading to the purchase of a wide variety of complex and highly specialized services, supplies, equipment, and systems.
Minimum Qualifications: U.S. Citizenship, specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level in the Federal service. Successful completion of four years of education above the high school level in any field in any field resulting in graduation. A combination of education and specialized experience.
Motor Vehicle Operator
Duties: Ensures that supplies and material are distributed to all areas serviced by Logistics by daily transportation of supplies, equipment, linen, mail, and clean/soiled sterile instruments between the off-site warehouse and the Medical Center.
Minimum Qualifications: U.S Citizenship, Valid Drivers License, and one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the WG-5 level in the Federal service.
Supply Technician
Duties: Provide wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations, and other hospital facilities with supplies and material including, but not limited to, sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets and equipment.
Minimum Qualifications: U.S. Citizenship, specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level in the Federal service. Successful completion of four years of education above the high school level in any field in any field resulting in graduation. A combination of education and specialized experience.
Housekeepers
Duties: Responsible for cleaning activities, including patients arear, offices, clinics, laboratories, and recreational areas. Mopping, dusting, trash collection and removal, cleaning and disinfecting toilets, showers, and bathrooms.
Minimum Qualifications: U.S. Citizenship, Preference Eligible in accordance with 5 U.S.C. 3310 and 5CFR.330.401. Evidence of training or experience required to complete the duties of this position.
