Veterans receive free legal services at "Wills for Heroes Legal Clinic"

On Veterans Day, November 11, 2010 – the Hidalgo County Bar Foundation/Bar Association ("HCBA") and the HCBA Estate Planning & Probate Law Section worked with the VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System (VATVCBHCS) to coordinate the first annual "Wills for Heroes Legal Clinic." The free legal services that were provided to Hidalgo County retired Veterans included the preparation of a free will, along with other necessary estate planning documentation, including Power of Attorney and Physicians Directive were provided.   Over a three week period prior to Veterans Day, foundation attorneys met with over 50 Veterans who had questions about the estate planning packet at the McAllen VA Outpatient Clinic.  In total, over 80 Veterans submitted their estate planning packets to the Foundation and were present on Veterans Day to review, sign, and take their free prepared documents.   The response from the Veteran community was impressive and the Hidalgo County Bar Foundation looks forward to coordinating next year's "Wills for Heroes" legal clinic again.
