Homeless Veteran Stand Down Coming to Corpus Christi

Corpus Christi Stand Down A Hand Up Not a Hand Out
Monday, October 17, 2011

A Homeless Veteran Stand Down is coming to Corpus Christi on October 25, 2011 starting at 10 AM at the Hector P Garcia National Guard Armory 1430 Horne Road.  There is a National Goal to end Veteran Homelessness and this is one initiative that reaches out to them.  The Stand Down in Corpus Christi is a one day event that provides services such as food, clothing, health screenings, benefits counseling, and other community resources for veterans who are homeless.  Our goal is to provide immediate relief from the trauma and isolation of homelessness as well as access to short term resources.  Additionally, we hope to provide connections and access to long term resources.  This could include referrals for public housing, substance abuse treatment, or to apply for benefits.   Homeless Veterans will be able to pick up a day bus pass, generously donated by the CC RTA at shelters the day before during the dinner hour (5-6 pm on 10/24/11).
